On 26 September 2014, the ITaRS fellows Xinxin Busch Li, Claudia Acquistapace, and Maria Barrera Verdejo joined the university’s annually event ‘Schnupperuni für Mädchen’. It is the goal of the science fair to guide the school girls of grade 7 and 8 towards learning physics through several physical experiments.

The event is organized by the students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne. It is the aim of the ‘Schnupperuni’ to introduce young girls to the world of natural science. They are encouraged to watch the physical or chemical phenomena and to run the experiments on their own, and to feel the scientific atmosphere of the university.

Xinxin, Claudia and Maria performed several experiments to show the girls how to measure air pressure, how strong air pressure can be, and how air pressure is generated. During 4 hours of teaching and learning the girls of all 5 groups (50 persons) showed high interest in the physical mechanisms regarding air pressure and how it affects their daily life.
