Secondment of Lukas Pfitzenmaier at the University of Reading
During the last 4 weeks, I was at the University of Reading for a secondment. The main goal of my stay was to learn more about microphysical retrievals of cloud properties, furthermore the exchange of knowledge and ideas was part of my agenda. So I was very glad that I got the chance to work with Chris Westbrook and his colleagues.
ITaRS final presentation - October 13-15 in Brussels
by Sarah Henkel
Over the last three years, ITaRS has given its best to train 16 PhD students and young post-docs in atmospheric remote sensing. As a final event, the network is going to present itself at the Meteorological Technology World Expo 2015, October 13-15 in Brussels. At the ITaRS booth you can meet our fellows, learn about the results of their research projects and discuss their future plans. ITaRS PIs Prof. Dr. Susanne Crewell and Prof. Dr. José Maria Baldasano present at the conference of the trade fair:
Tuesday 13 Oct, 12 a.m.: Susanne Crewell, University of Cologne “Training for Atmospheric Remote Sensing: the ITARS programme”
Wednesday 14 Oct, 12:30 a.m.: José Maria Baldasano, UPC Barcelona “Barcelona dust forecast centre: The first WMO regional meteorological centre specialised on atmospheric sand and dust”
It is a special virtue of Marie Curie initial training programmes, to prepare for both a career in academia and in industry. The ITaRS network offered their fellows a mixture of summer schools, joint campaigns, secondments to academia and industry and complementary training courses. Each of the fellows is employed by one of our 9 partner universities. Together, they form a new generation of scientists that are able to close the gap between the specialized development of single instruments and atmospheric applications.
Visiting the Meteorological Technology World Expo is free of charge.

by Umar Saeed
ITARS fellow Umar Saeed has attended the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2015 (IGARSS 2015) held from Sunday July 26th to Friday July 31st, 2015 in Milan, Italy. He also presented his research results in the form of an oral presentation and a poster for the two accepted papers titled, "Synergetic use of lidar and microwave radiometer observations for boundary-layer height detection" and "Adaptive estimation of the stable boundary-layer height using backscatter lidar data and a Kalman filter".
