ITaRS fellows at the 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology
The ITaRS fellows Alexander Myagkov, Lukas Pfitzenmaier and Pilar Gumà-Claramunt participated in the 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology that was held in Norman (Oklahoma) from 14th to 18th September 2015.
The conference covered several interesting topics, such as cloud microphysical studies, new and emerging radar technology, mesoscale and severe weather, airborne and spaceborne radars, operational radar networks and products, millimetre wavelength radars, QPE (Quantitative Precipitation Estimation) and hydrological applications, nowcasting and NWP (Numerical Weather Prediction) models.
The ITaRS fellows had a very active participation at the conference, both as audience as presenters.
Secondment at McGill University, Montreal
My secondment at the McGill University took place between the 4th of February and the 11th of March 2015.
I arrived in the afternoon of the 4th February and the first thing that really astonished me was the ability of the plane to land on a completely snow-white landing lane. The softest and coldest landing in my life.
Secondment of Maria Barrera Verdejo in Hamburg
During June, the fellow Maria Barrera Verdejo spent two weeks at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg.
There, she was exchanging ideas with the experts on tropical dynamics, Raman lidar and microwave radiometry. She also had useful discussions with her supervisor Bjorn Stevens. During her stay, she gave a seminar where she presented her work to the institute. In her talk, she explained the progress of her thesis and focused on the airborne application (HALO) of the algorithm she is developing.
