Secondment of ESR10 at Metek
Here again, ESR10 telling about her PhD. This time, I would like to tell you something about how is to visit and work for one week in a company.
As part of my PhD project, one of my secondments was at Metek, with the precious aid of Matthias Bauer, following and mentoring my activities there. I worked in Elmshorn from 10 to 17 april 2014. First two days spent in deciding which was the best thing to do, as it often happens when there are plenty of things to do. From Monday on, the idea was to make the chain of radar data processing more efficient and fast.
Telling something about Zugspitze
I am a lucky person. As it often happens, lucky people tend to forget how lucky they are. And, not even in this I’m an exception.
Luckily again, in my job, like in many others, you are supposed to tell the other people what you have been doing, and thanks to this sometimes time demanding duty, it happens that you think about your work, and you finally realize, again, how lucky you are.
Huge preambol, right, just for saying that the experience at Zugspitze, Scheenfernzentrum, (DE), was so rich for me, and gave me so much, not only in scientific terms, that it’s hardly possible to summarize in a brief text.
HygrA-CD campaign in Athens starting in May 15th, 2014
The National Technical University of Athens with the support of INOE 2000, UPC Barcelona and University of Cologne is organising a field campaign in Athens, Greece for the period May 15th - June 15th. The scientific motivation of this experiment is driven by the uncertainties on the formation of cloud droplets by condensation. Certainly, aerosols which are prone to water uptake, have the ability to form cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). In particular, further information about the goals and instrumentation network of HygrA-CD (From Hygroscopic Aerosol to Cloud Droplets) campaign can be found in our website. If you are interested to know more about our outcomes or want to have a visit in Athens while the campaign takes place, This email address is being protected from spambots. Summer School 2014
by Sarah Henkel
Clouds and Precipitation: Observation and Processes
September 08-17, 2014
Research Center Jülich, Germany
The Summer School on "Clouds and Precipitation: Observation and Processes" provides theoretical and practical training on clouds and precipitation (instrumentation, retrieval and processes). Participants will benefit from a hands-on training with the instruments from the JOYCE site (microwave radiometer, scanning cloud radar, micro rain radar, wind lidar, sodar, infrared spectrometer) and the polarimetric twin radars in Bonn and Jülich. Specific lectures on different instrumental techniques, data assimilation and climate processes will be held by the experts of the field. During group work, open discussions and social events participants will have the opportunity to discuss with the external lecturers and strengthen their network.
The Summer School is organized by EU-funded network ITARS and represents the sequel of the Summer School on "Remote Sensing of Clouds and Precipitation" organized by the Hans Ertel Centre of Weather Research (HErZ) held in Bonn 2013.
