ITaRS fellows in Cyprus
by Lev Labzovsky and Athina Argyrouli
Lev Labzovsky and Athina Argyrouli visited ACTRIS and EARLINET meeting organized in Limassol in November 2013.
Lev Labzovsky went to Cyprus with his colleagues Doina Nicolae and Livio Belegante from Bucharest. Before the meeting I have never visited any EARLINET events and met the people linked with lidar community only via ITaRS activities. Athina Argyrouli was also there, together with some colleagues from the National Observatory of Athens.
Secondment of ESR6 to University of Cologne
In October 2013, I (Sophia Schäfer) was seconded to Susanne Crewell’s research group at the University of Cologne for 2 weeks. In my project, I will use data from the Jülich ObservatorY for Cloud Evolution (JOYCE) scanning cloud radar to reconstruct 3D cloud fields and develop a statistical parametrisation for the area of cloud sides, depending on cloud type, for use in a 3D radiation scheme. Goals of the secondment were to get acquainted with the measuring strategies used at JOYCE, the available data and possible artefacts, adapt an interpolation scheme for that data and decide on a choice of cases that are representative and allow intercomparison with work done in Cologne.
ITaRS at the General Assembly of the Marie Curie Alumni Association
The first General Assembly of the association MCAA (Marie Curie Alumni Association) took place in Brussels, Belgium. The event was held from 09h30 to 17h30 on Saturday the 23rd November, at the wonderful Square Brussels Meeting Centre, Mont des Arts. It had the main aim of electing the first board. The articles of the association were approved, and the participants could start networking via the many contacts they were able to make. The fellow Maria Barrera Verdejo attended this event as one of the ITaRS fellows representatives. For more information, the website of the association can be found here.
ITaRS fellow installs Microwave Radiometer on Barbados
The fellow Maria Barrera Verdejo recently travelled to Barbados. The aim of the trip was the installation of the Microwave Radiometer SUNHAT at the Max Planck Institute Barbados Observatory. The instrument is going to participate in a campaign on December and for that, it must be ready in advance. The fellow and other two colleagues travelled together and managed to leave working SUNHAT. After that, it can be remotely controlled from the University of Cologne. For more information about the status and characteristics of the instrument check the Wiki of the Research Group Integrated Remote Sensing in Cologne.
